European conference: Shortcut Europe 2010: Cultural policies and social exclusion
Fonds Soziokultur, Dortmund, Germany, 03 June 2010 to 05 June 2010
For the second time the Fonds Soziokultur e.V. is organizing an international event in the series of European conferences named Shortcut Europe. In 2010 the Ruhr metropolitan area will be the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 and will define the content of the next Shortcut Europe conference. Cultural centers and cultural operators and politicians from all over Europe will be invited to debate on theoretical and practical issues as well as the present situation and perspective of cultural policy and social inclusion.
According to the upcoming European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion 2010, one of the main objectives is social inclusion. The European Union thus reacts on demerging tendencies in societies. Culture is of course part of it, and social marginalization often indicates cultural exclusion. On the other hand the demand for equal participation in culture is one of the central items in up-to-date discussions in the field of cultural policies.
How can cultural policy react? How can cultural centers achieve integration and participation of as many social classes as possible? Are there new approaches and methods of activating cultural participation in the context of European socio-culture? Are there examples in cultural centers of best-practice which are worth to be taken up on an European level? What is about their operational and financial working conditions? Who are the new actors and who the new addresses? What are the practical perspectives and what do estimations for the future look like? These and other questions will be tackled during the 3-day-conference in Dortmund next June.
